Runway
Project Update
Work on the first phase of a project to rehabilitate
the Airport’s primary runway 9/27 is complete. Airport Director Dan
Mann said the costs for the first phase of reconstruction were $6
million. When the remaining three phases of the project are complete
in 2009 it will cost a total of $47 million.
There were a few problems for the commercial service
airlines during the summer, Mann said, though, every effort was made to
minimize the problems. "When an airport has to do work on its primary
runway, there are always a few disruptions unfortunately," he said.
Mann and the staff at Engineering Alliance, overseeing
the project, have created a plan to insure that the runway work done
next construction season won't impact airline operations.
Runway 9/27, at 8,600 feet, ishas been re-opened to its
full length and the ILS (instrument landing system) is operational.
