Bags and Boots Provided

Several customer initiatives have recently been implemented to ease the traveler's experience when flying out of The Eastern Iowa Airport.

Plastic, zip-top bags and paper booties are now available before going through security checkpoint. The bags provide an easy way for people to place all their lose items - such as change, keys and cell phones - in one sealable bag. Bags can then be placed in the container used by the Federal Transportation Security Administration to move items through the X-ray machine.

The bags can also be used as part of the latest TSA security rules on bringing liquids, gels or aerosols on board the plane. The TSA now allows up to 3 ounces of liquids or gels in carry-on luggage, but all such items must fit in one quart-size plastic bag.

For travelers who have more than the allowable amount of liquids or gels and did not place them in their checked luggage, there will be an alternative to throwing out those items.

Receptacles will be placed in the men's and women's restrooms in the main lobby area of the terminal, as well as in the checkpoint area giving people a place to donate their items to area homeless shelters.

"We know sometimes people forget, and in order to comply with the TSA rules, they might just toss out these items in the garbage in the terminal," said Airport Director Dan Mann. "We have been contacted by area agencies asking us to donate the items and we are happy to help coordinate this."

The items will be gathered by the Airport and representatives from agencies  will be able to pick up the items.

Mann said all these initiatives may be small in the big picture of the Airport's operation, but it is big to the more than 1 million passengers who choose The Eastern Iowa Airport for their business and leisure travel.

"We're all about customer service," Mann said. "We want to make flying as easy as possible for Corridor travelers."
