FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jan. 12, 2007 – Liquids, gels and/or aerosols prohibited from carry-on luggage are being donated to the Airport for distribution to local agencies who assist low-income residents or those with other needs. Passengers may only have 3-ounce containers or less of a liquid, gel or aerosol placed in a quart-sized plastic zip-top bag – one bag per person. For anyone who has more than that, the item may not be taken on to the plane. At the checkpoint, Federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel explain to those who have items they can not take with them, they may place them in containers provided by the Airport and the items will be donated to assist low-income residents. Airport personnel store the items and they are picked up by local agencies to distribute to their clients. Presently, there are two organizations that pick up items, Abbe Center for Community Health and Linn County General Assistance. The next pick-up planned by the agencies is Monday, Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. in the Airport Administration Building, 2515 Arthur Collins Parkway SW. Items have been stored since before the Christmas holiday and there are several boxes with various items, including, water, canned food, shampoo and toothpaste. For more details please notify: |
